In the late 20th Century Severndroog Castle was closed to the public, boarded up and fell into disrepair.

In spring 2002, its owner, Greenwich Council, planned to lease the ailing monument to property developer Mount Anvil, which intended to convert it into offices.

But, following a storm of protests the plans were halted.

Anji Petersen of the Severndroog Castle Building Preservation Trust, the company formed by the campaigners, said: "Severndroog Castle is a Grade II listed building and is on the English Heritage Buildings at Risk register".

The Trust have been awarded a grant of £5,000 for a feasiblity study from Awards for All.

In the meantime, Severndroog Castle stands unused and vandalised, its condition deteriorating and its future undecided.
